Turn Existing PDF Text into Editable Plain Text

Take the text layer from reports, notes or other PDFs and reuse it in a text editor. Each source document produces its own TXT file. This extracts existing text rather than recognizing letters in scanned pictures.

Extract Text from PDF: practical uses and limits

Extract existing text into a plain TXT copy for searching, quoting or editing. Text extraction does not preserve the full page design and does not recognize image-only scans. Review reading order before reusing the text.

Questions About PDF Text Extraction

Does this recognize text in scanned pages?
No. It reads the existing text layer. A page containing only a scanned image will not yield text unless it already has a text layer.
Does it preserve the PDF layout?
The result is plain text, not a formatted Word document. Fonts, images and the visual page layout are not part of the TXT output; reading order depends on the source PDF’s text structure.
Can I extract only selected pages?
Text mode extracts the complete document. To work with a subset, first save the pages you need with Extract PDF Pages, then extract text from that new file.
How are page breaks represented?
With the page-break option enabled, a line of dashes separates pages. With it off, pages are separated by blank lines.
What happens with multiple PDFs?
Each successfully processed source has its own UTF-8 TXT result. The download-all action starts separate TXT downloads; it does not merge them or create a ZIP.
Does a shortened text display affect the download?
No. Long text may be shortened on screen. Copying and TXT download use the complete extracted text.
Can I process protected PDFs locally?
Yes, with the correct password. Extraction happens in your browser, and the output is a plain TXT file rather than a password-protected PDF.
Is this PDF tool completely free?
Yes. Processing and downloading results are completely free. Keep an original copy for future work.
