Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I place the page numbers?
Choose one of nine positions: left, center or right across the top, middle or bottom of the page. You can browse source pages before processing.
Which formats can I use?
Presets include a number, “Page N”, “Page N of M”, “- N -” and “N / M”. Custom templates use {page} for the number and {pages} for the document’s total page count.
Can I start numbering at a different value?
Yes. Set the starting number to a positive value. Each PDF starts its own numbering sequence from that value.
Can I leave the first or last page unnumbered?
Yes. The skip-first and skip-last options appear when the currently selected document has more than two pages.
Will existing page numbers be replaced?
No. This tool adds new page-number text; it does not find or erase numbers already present on the pages.
How do I number continuously across several files?
Use Add Bates Numbers for a sequence that continues across files, with optional prefixes, suffixes and zero padding.
Are my files uploaded?
No. PDF processing runs locally in the browser and creates new copies. Protected sources require the correct password; outputs do not automatically retain that protection.
Is this PDF tool completely free?
Yes. Processing and downloading results are completely free. Keep an original copy for future work.
